Producer Melissa Land and Composer Lauren Comele Morris Talk Circus of the Dead!

Earlier this year Circus of the Dead completed an epic festival run and hit Amazon, iTunes, Google Play, and Vudo on VOD. As we speak, pre-orders are being processed for this Clockwork Orange-esque clown filled nightmare inside a groovy looking DVD/Blu Ray.

Now that you can rent and own this controversial horror film, we bring interviews conducted, right here on Ax Wound, with two incredibly hard working women who killed it behind-the-scenes.

From July 3, 2015:

Circus of the Dead is one of the most anticipated horror releases, currently rockin’ festivals and receiving glowing reviews. Behind the scenes, Melissa Land gave all of herself with an awe-inspiring level of commitment, passion, and dedication that you can’t help but feel inspired.

Earlier this year I had the honor of working alongside the COTD crew and getting a first hand look at just how incredible and hardworking this badass lady truly is. With a love of film deep in the core of her being, she is taking on the world of indie filmmaking with Billy Pon and the rest of the COTD family.

February 4, 2015:

According to Independent Women: Behind-the-Scenes Employment on Festival Films in 2013-14 by Martha M. Lauzen, Ph.D, one of the most disturbing statistics reveal a whopping 2% of women worked as composers on top grossing films last year. With such a deplorable number of opportunities, it is especially crucial we seek out, support, and hire talented female composers. Maybe next year we can maybe make it up to 3%?

Working to shatter this glass ceiling and no stranger to the fight to be heard is Austin, Texas-based Lauren Comele Morris, a superstar sound designer and film composer and owner of Scorpion Sound Design. Lauren has worked on 18 films and numerous TV productions, including such indie heavyweights as Circus of the Dead and The Reincarnation of Jesse Belle. She was gracious enough to talk to Ax Wound about her work ethic, passion for sound, and industry hurdles as well as offer some inspiration for aspiring sound designers.
